[Symbiosis: Zero]
In pursuit of the Holy Grail coveted by a magus, a being calling himself the King of Magecraft found him. After an exchange, they made a "pact."
From then on, he bore a curse. Until he fulfilled the so-called pact, he would undergo countless reincarnations, and none of them would end well.
Along with his reincarnations came the "evil" dwelling within him. The relationship between curse and cursed, symbiosis and erosion, was like mud winding around his soul.
[Dream of an Illusion]
Furuya Rei never believed in reincarnation. But when he went undercover in the Black Organization and met Glenfiddich Whiskey, who looked exactly like his childhood friend who had died at the age of seven, his body turned cold, as if he were standing in the underworld.
When they were alone, Glenfiddich showed a proud yet captivating smile, just like the person who had died.
"It's been a long time, Rei."
Furuya Rei was dazed. Was he dreaming? But if his childhood friend were still alive, he would be the same age as Rei now... not a boy of sixteen.
"Who are you, really?"
"Have you forgotten me already?"
How could he ever forget? And yet, for that very reason, everything happening now felt like a dream in which logic had been turned upside down.
Because of a promise he had made to his dead childhood friend, Rei had wanted to become a Hero of Justice. But now that he had found him, not only was there an age difference, he had even become a codename operative raised by the Organization from childhood.
Whether this was a dream or reality, Furuya Rei would bring him back... and if he really had become "evil," Rei would destroy him with his own hands.
But please, don't be so cruel to him. Furuya Rei didn't want to watch this person die all over again.
But their dreamlike reunion ultimately vanished like a bubble.
"Since you've decided to stand on the side of justice, I have to make your dream come true. After all, I love you, Rei." The man smiled, his eyes curving.
But Furuya Rei knew that the man had always been a liar, and that his so-called love didn't mean anything a normal person could understand.
Still, this time, Furuya Rei was willing to be deceived by him.
[Snow Melting in Spring]
Sukuna had an old friend. Everyone around him thought highly of the man, but Sukuna knew all too well how vicious his nature was beneath that beautiful exterior. Sukuna had wanted to defeat him and make him submit, but the chance never came before the man died. Instead, the desire became a knot in Sukuna's heart that he could never unravel.
[The Last Rays of Sunset]
Muzan had a childhood friend. Though they shared the same circumstances, the other man was like a sun that would never go out. It disgusted Muzan, who swore he would bring that sun to its setting. But when his wish finally came true, all that remained in Muzan's heart was endless emptiness.
[Fragments of Memory]
Gogol had a playmate. As children, they talked about the future together in the snow. Watching his little friend's body grow weaker by the day, Gogol decided to help him fly to freedom. Even as he felt pain, his friend looked at him gently. Gogol thought his mind would be free when the boy died, but he remained trapped in the memories of their childhood.
[Interlude]
"Those humans are truly pathetic, falling in love with a magus like you," the evil lurking in the shadows mocked.
"And what about you?" he asked with a beaming smile. "Do you hate me, Avenger?"
"...Do you think that's hatred?" The shadows in the corner suddenly spread.
"Heh. If love is intense enough, perhaps it can be called hatred."
Even the embodiment of all the world's evil had to admit that falling in love with a magus who didn't understand the human heart might be fate's way of mocking him.
