To My Dear Little Moon

*About me:

When I was little, Mom asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I'd just finished looking at an illustrated book about Chang'e flying to the moon. Chang'e was so beautiful.

So I said I'd become Chang'e and fly to the moon, but I'd take Lin Lie with me.

Mom covered her mouth and laughed, praising me for making my words rhyme. She asked why I wanted to take Lin Lie along. I put my hands on my hips and declared like a champion of justice, "I have to protect him!"

*About Lin Lie:

Lin Lie only moved in next door during summer vacation. A chubby kid from my preschool class was always picking on him, and Dad said that even kids should have a sense of justice. So that day I beat the chubby kid up and announced that Lin Lie was under my protection.

*What I never expected:

1. I really can't become Chang'e.

2. Lin Lie didn't want to fly to the moon with me, and he's good at kickboxing.

3. Once we got to middle school, Lin Lie's grades shot to the moon, while mine didn't.

4. I only found out later that Lin Lie said I was his little moon. I was so embarrassed, but Lin Lie sure knew how to keep a secret!

*Written in third person throughout. Happy ending.
