Guest Before the Lord

Xie Heng and Shen Bai: one is a general commanding a hundred thousand armored troops, and the other is the chancellor, the highest-ranking civil official in the land.

On the day the new emperor ascended the throne, Shen Bai, usually so composed that he never showed his feelings, immediately submitted a memorial requesting that General Xie be sent to guard the border. The new emperor was left in a difficult position.

While the civil officials in court trembled, wondering whether the mighty General Xie might draw his sword and start hacking at people on his way out, Xie Heng left without a word the next day, before dawn.

Only, on his first day at the border, he discovered a delicate chain around his waist that he had no idea when he had acquired.

Everyone knew that Shen Bai had grown up in the Xie household. Few knew that on the day Old Master Xie passed away, he summoned no one, not even his own son. The only person he saw was Shen Bai.

A general who is the bottom and a chancellor who is the top.
