Giving Up

_

One afternoon after school, a classmate saw Chen Jiujiu, the ultimate lovesick puppy, sneakily getting into Pei Silu's car. Pei Silu was the campus beauty on a pedestal.

The next day during break, a bunch of Chen Jiujiu's friends crowded around her, jokingly demanding that she come clean.

Chen Jiujiu stammered, unable to get a word out.

No one noticed a cold glare suddenly being cast at Chen Jiujiu, at the center of the storm, from somewhere in the classroom.

After that, they still went home together, and classmates still saw them. But whenever she was asked about it, the more she stammered, the more people's imaginations ran wild.

Their speculation came to an abrupt end a few months later, when Pei Silu got into F University with top marks, while Chen Jiujiu scored so poorly that she had to repeat her final year.

Everyone watching the drama thought their lives had now become two parallel lines, never to cross again.

But then, out of nowhere, shocking news spread: the Chen and Pei families were arranging a marriage between their children. Chen Jiujiu and Pei Silu would get married in three years!

Three years isn't especially long or short. It's long enough for someone to fall completely in love with another person, yet short enough for someone to feel time flying by before they've loved enough.

As it happened, Chen Jiujiu was both kinds of person.

For Pei Silu, those three years were an insult, a source of disgust, a prison.

After learning the truth, Chen Jiujiu felt sad, and even felt sorry for him. She had no idea he'd had such a hard time putting up with her. But at last, she decided to give up on him, and used medical treatment to erase every memory of him.

But she never expected that this would bring her an even worse nightmare.

One night, she felt someone holding her tight, squeezing her so she could hardly breathe, yet she couldn't wake up. Someone spoke in her ear, their voice tender and clinging: "Jiujiu, why don't you love me anymore?"
