A Splendid Life in the Qing Dynasty

In the Qing court, some transmigrators win over the princes, some are sent off to Mongolia in marriage alliances, and others battle wits with the consorts in Kangxi's harem.

Lingzhu's situation is rather unusual. Ever since she entered the palace in the thirty-ninth year of Kangxi's reign, she has become a mascot, quietly settled in a corner of the Forbidden City.

Fed up with the special treatment Kangxi gives this mascot, Consort Tong of Chengqian Palace finally explodes: Is she here to be a servant or to be treated like an ancestor?

On New Year's Eve, Lingzhu runs through the snow with a rabbit lantern, leaving a long trail of footprints.

Liang Jiugong, the chief eunuch of the Qianqing Palace, chases after her, panting: Little ancestor, slow down!
