[Insectoid] Before the Lights Go Out

“The day we wake up is the day dawn finally breaks.” On the first day of the new millennium, the insectoid hordes trampled across Nephthys, the empire's northern frontier. People wailed and screamed as they fled through the smoke. It was still early morning, and the gray air carried the smell of ash. After the thick fog lifted, a black-haired, black-eyed youth in light armor stepped into the main city of Nephthys, an energy rifle in his right hand and a lightness in his step. Behind him stretched a vast insectoid army, its ranks as imposing as storm clouds pressing down on a city. Silence reigned all around. Under the fearful, disgusted, and panicked gazes of those around him, the youth lazily ruffled his hair and slowly smiled. “Long live the insectoids!” 1. Anti-war, post-apocalyptic science fiction 2.
