Doting on the Heir's Wife

[Sweet, teary-eyed crybaby vs. irritable big brother]

After narrowly escaping death on the battlefield, Xie Xingjian, heir to the Marquis of Jingyuan, woke up and was forcibly bound to a System called "Back You Up."

The person he had to back up was Yu Anruan, a pitiful girl from the Duke of Yu's household whom he had never met.

Xie Xingjian didn't give it a second thought, until one day he came across Yu Anruan being cornered by someone.

He did his best to ignore the strange feeling in his heart and walked past her without looking back.

"Smack!"

"Smack!" Xie Xingjian saw stars from the pain.

The System's cold notification sounded in his ear: Any harm she suffers will be reflected onto you tenfold.

Xie Xingjian braced himself and turned around. Seeing the bright red handprint on Yu Anruan's face, he flew into a rage, kicked the person who had hit her to the ground, and snapped, "Who gave you the nerve to lay a hand on her?"

The onlookers and Yu Anruan: Meow meow meow???

**

Xie Xingjian felt that something was off with him lately. He was paying a little too much attention to that girl. So he pretended to be annoyed and said, "I can't rush over and stand up for you every time. You need to learn to become stronger on your own!"

Yu Anruan looked at him pitifully and nodded through her tears.

Then, the next time it happened,

Yu Anruan stared at the hairpin she liked, which her older half-sister had just snatched away. She had only just worked up the courage to speak when Xie Xingjian's breathless voice came from behind her: "You there! Put that down!"

The heir was loaded, and he stood up for his girl. "Wrap all of these up for me."

Looking down at Yu Anruan, who had gone from crying to smiling, Xie Xingjian felt his whole heart soften.

Fine, fine. He'd be the bad guy.
