Sinking Into Spring

Beautiful, strong, tragic disabled female general x lovesick, seemingly sweet but secretly dark younger brother Chang Ning donned armor and went to war at sixteen. By nineteen, she had earned great honors and become a famed female general in Yujing, renowned for her power and prestige. But just as she should have been flourishing in the prime of her life, she lost the use of both legs after the enemy laid a trap for her when she went to rescue their captured crown prince. From then on, she was bound to a wheelchair and could never return to the battlefield. The once-celebrated goddess of war became a cripple everyone mocked. After falling so far, even finding a husband became a problem. No one wanted to marry a disabled woman, even one who had once been dazzling and beautiful. Chang Ning thought, so be it. She could spend the rest of her life quietly in her courtyard. At least no one would bother her, and she could enjoy the peace. Then one day, her father brought home a quiet young man from the frontier. He refused to speak and kept everyone at arm's length, as though he wanted nothing to do with anyone. Before long, everyone in the Chang household had taken a dislike to him. He seemed so much like her, both of them outcasts in their own way. So, when she once saw the young man being bullied, she hesitated for a long time before coolly stepping in to help. From then on, they sank into the depths together. * At first, the young man was still timid in response to her kindness. He would lower his eyes and say only two things to her: "Thank you, Sister." And, "You needn't trouble yourself for me, Sister." Later, dressed in fine clothes and holding a sword in one hand, the young man pinned her against his chest. His eyes reddened, his voice dark and threatening. "Who does A Ning like?" "I'll destroy him." Theme: Even in adversity, they can grow together by standing side by side.
