Your Majesty, Please Treat Your Delusions

The Fourth Miss Xie did not enter the palace of her own free will.

The new emperor overthrew the old dynasty, and on his first day in Chang'an, he wiped out three great clans.

Her father was terrified. Of his four daughters, he chose Fourth Miss Xie and sent her to the palace.

Fourth Miss Xie was meek and obedient, hoping only that her mother would be treated well at the Xie estate.

She thought: Once His Majesty tires of me, I'll find a corner in some abandoned palace and sit there daydreaming. The rest of my life will pass by soon enough.

But she never imagined that the new emperor was crazy!

Fourth Miss Xie wore a dark green hairpin. The emperor smiled warmly: "This goes beautifully with my robes. My beloved consort is so thoughtful."

Fourth Miss Xie wrote a poem about cherishing spring. The emperor couldn't put it down: "My beloved consort is confessing her feelings to me."

Fourth Miss Xie accidentally picked up a piece of fatty meat and was about to set it aside. The emperor held out his bowl: "You picked this out especially for me?"

Fourth Miss Xie remarked that the moon looked rather round tonight. The emperor recited into the breeze: "May your heart be like mine, and may we stay together for all time."

Fourth Miss Xie: "Get lost." The emperor: "Coming right up."

Later, Fourth Miss Xie decided they needed to post a notice seeking skilled doctors. After all, this emperor had fought his way from the frontier and secured the throne. Was there really nothing wrong with his head?
