[Western Crossover] Another Lucky Day

Hao Yun is the exact opposite of his name, which means "good fortune." He nearly choked to death as a baby, almost drowned after falling into a sewer, consistently scores 59 on exams, and always ends up with sour oranges.

A fortune-teller told him that a benefactor awaited him in the West, and that finding them would let him defy fate and change his life. Just after his eighteenth birthday, Hao Yun was packed off on a plane to America.

After barely scraping through a diploma mill, he finally found a job. On his first day at work, he ran into a ghost on the bus.

But when your bad luck is strong enough, it can come in handy. When the FBI suspected him of a crime, he proved his innocence by guessing higher or lower. Every stock he bought went down, so he pinpointed the exact moment Tony Stark went missing and still managed to turn a profit.

What really gave him a headache was the growing number of ghosts clinging to him: the wrongfully dead, the amnesiac, and even Batman's parents, who had died years ago. He was forced to help the ghosts fulfill their wishes, only to discover that he seemed to be getting less unlucky.

Then one day, dazed and groggy, Hao Yun bumped into someone. The stairwell light came on, the lock stopped sticking, and his ham sandwich finally had ham in it. Two slices, even.

Mom, I think I've found my benefactor.

Even more absurdly, intimate contact with his benefactor could increase his luck.

From then on, with his benefactor in one hand and ghosts in the other, he was rescued by Captain America and Superman, spared by the Joker's men, and escaped Hydra's pursuit. Along the way, he joined his superhero friends in saving the world.

Later, Hao Yun asked his benefactor, "When did you first start liking me?"

His benefactor thought for a moment. "Probably the day you were taken hostage by the Joker."

Hao Yun: "... Is there something wrong with the way your romance gets triggered?"
