[Natsume] Beyond the World

Asano Yuki makes the same birthday wish every year.

Dear gods, please let me see yokai.

She's never gotten a response, so she figures she must be going about it the wrong way.

Wait, was her pronunciation right? Kneeling on a cushion with an incense stick in her hand, the young Asano wondered if the language barrier was the problem.

"Great Lord, please grant my wish!"

Asano Yuki held a Bible and traced a cross over her chest.

"Dear Santa, please grant my wish!"

After repeating it three times, Asano Yuki lay down in bed and pulled up the covers, falling asleep in peace, as if the stocking on the Christmas tree might suddenly start talking tomorrow.

In middle school, Asano Yuki, a professional transfer student, met Natsume Takashi, who was just as rootless as she was. She firmly believed the rumors that Natsume could "see yokai," and their brief friendship began.

They met again in high school, and this time, Asano Yuki's wish finally came true.
