Know the Years

Before the Guardian of the Nation's Dharma Master passed away, he cast one final divination for the country's fortune. He predicted that Gu Qingxuan, heir to the Prince of Rong, would one day ascend the throne.

The Prince of Rong was the current emperor's cousin. He had guarded the border for many years and commanded an army. Though he himself had no ambitions for the throne, after the Imperial Astrologer's prophecy, he lived in constant fear. He had even prepared to send his son into hiding and accept all the blame himself.

But then an imperial decree arrived at the border. The emperor earnestly asked the Prince of Rong whether he would be willing to let Gu Qingxuan join the emperor's household as crown prince.

The Prince of Rong: ...

Considering their ages, the current emperor was not yet thirty, and was only thirteen years older than Gu Qingxuan.

As they set off for the imperial capital, the Prince of Rong held his son's hand. Recalling the few times he had spent with his imperial cousin as a child, he told Gu Qingxuan uncertainly that His Majesty was probably a mild and kind man.

Sixteen-year-old Gu Qingxuan gave a cold laugh. "If he forces me, I'll simply fulfill the prophecy and follow Heaven's will!"

When they first met in the towering palace, the ruler of all under Heaven wore plain white robes and held an oil-paper umbrella. He was shockingly slender and frail, yet possessed such peerless elegance that it could steal one's soul.

Across a curtain of rain, Gu Qingxuan, still a boy, fell in love at first sight with the man who was now his "Imperial Father."
