Back to the 1980S: Teaching and Shaping Lives

A female teacher came to Hulu Village School. Life was hard at the school in the mountain village. Six villages shared one school, which consisted of just three dilapidated tile-roofed rooms. Everyone said the teacher wouldn't stay long. But she stayed anyway. Some people said the new teacher was crazy. She was always telling her students strange things. Things like planes spraying pesticides, machines that could talk, and lessons taught in outer space. It was all nonsense. Only the ignorant children believed her, gazing at her with eager eyes. Going to school was a waste of time. It was better to go to the city and earn money. Getting married and having kids as soon as possible was what mattered. Then, as one village child after another got into university and left the village, all the teacher's crazy talk actually came true. Her students really did go beyond the mountains to make a living. No one ever called the teacher crazy again. "Study. Study hard. Go see what's beyond the mountains. Don't stay here and foolishly marry someone." *Blurb dated July 20, 2022 *Plot-driven serious drama, spanning a long period of time. Not a wish-fulfillment romance.
