Who killed him?

The criminals did. They were the ones who dragged him into this.

Batman did. He was the one who made him fall into the chemical pool.

Gotham did. It was what set him on this path.

It was... me. My indifference killed him.

Lynn used to love Batman.

He loved the man who, after losing the person dearest to him, chose to shoulder all the pain,

the man who struggled onward on the boundary between darkness and light.

So when he became eight-year-old Lynn Joseph Cole, he chose to give that boy, orphaned and fresh from crawling out of the Batcave, a gentle hug.

It wasn't your fault, Bruce.

You'll grow up to be a great man.

Many years later, standing alone on a Gotham street as night fell, Lynn finally understood what this city meant to them.

If Gotham had to have a Joker, just as Bruce Wayne was destined to become Batman, then Lynn would become the Joker.

He would become mad and twisted, chaotic and evil, but he would keep watching his boy carry on. From the deepest, most hidden darkness, he would tell him: Bruce, this place isn't right for you, so please don't come down here.

My dear little bat, one Joker in hell is enough.
