Boundless Seas of Books: Sharing Great Reads (Modern)

I was drawn to online fiction by a book recommendation post on Tianya in September 2007, and got hooked from then on. I read quickly and read a lot, and even tried writing a little, only to discover that doing is harder than knowing. I hope to write a few words here in tribute to the wonderful stories I've read without leaving a comment. A few books have been milestones in my history as an online fiction reader: The Glamorous Courtesan, the first online novel I read. It dazzled me and showed me that novels could be written this way. One of my favorites, and the book that introduced me to the world of online fiction. Scarlet Heart, the first transmigration novel I read. It moved me so much I cried several times. One of my favorites. The Boy in the Middle, the first online novel I bought. In fact, I hadn't read it online before buying it; I found it through Dangdang.com. One of my favorites. To Our Decaying Youth, the first online novel I finished and then paid for. I reread it often, putting myself through the wringer as I read. One of my favorites. Morning Light, the first danmei novel I read. It moved me and broke down my prejudice against danmei, and I started reading it from then on. One of my favorites. Gold is never perfectly pure, and even white jade has flaws. The same goes for stories. Whether popular or obscure, some people will praise them and others will throw bricks. The stories I recommend may not have original plots, beautiful prose, or profound ideas, and they may have plenty of shortcomings. But each one has something that touches my heart (and by that, I mean my own heart). I recommend stories regardless of how popular they are, but I won't recommend major hits like To Our Decaying Youth and A Match Made in Brocade, even though I love them. I hope we can share good books and a good life together. Reasonable feedback is welcome; unreasonable brickbats are not. The list is in no particular order. I'll just add whatever comes to mind. These are all contemporary stories.
