Spring at Luantai

[The Young Empress Dowager and the New Emperor]

Lu Yuanxi was renowned throughout Yujing for her exquisite beauty. Just after her coming-of-age ceremony, the old emperor took a fancy to her and made her his empress consort.

Unfortunately, the old emperor suddenly died on the very day of her coronation. The Ninth Prince, rumored to be a bloodthirsty tyrant, stormed the palace and ascended the throne as the new emperor.

At first, Lu Yuanxi thought that if she kept to herself in a quiet corner of the palace and spent her days beside the Buddha, she would be able to save her own life.

Then one day, just as Lu Yuanxi was about to retire for the night, she stepped into her bedchamber.

Her jade-white hand slowly lifted the gauzy curtain, only to be seized by a large hand with sharply defined knuckles.

The man moved with the ease of drifting clouds, his gaze roaming over her with unrestrained possessiveness, lingering on her face as its color slowly drained away.

Lu Yuanxi would never know that from the moment she was brought before Jing Xun, her jade-like temples and flowerlike face, so delicate and touching, had unknowingly left their mark on the man's heart.

An improper thought suddenly took root in Jing Xun's heart, like scorching magma bursting forth and surging a thousand miles, impossible to contain.

The beauty's tender charms and gentle words gradually became his obsession, his thoughts growing darker and deeper by the day.

Later, he offered her his empire as a bride price, keeping the former empress dowager by his side and doting on her without ever letting her suffer the slightest grievance.
