Passing the Time by Surviving a Tribulation

Beneath the clouds are mountains, and above the clouds stands a palace. In the mountains live spirit beasts; in the palace dwell immortal lords.

An immortal lord said to a certain beast, "I'm free, so how about I help you cultivate the Dao and become immortal?"

The beast scoffed. "Don't think I don't know you just want to make me your mount. I'm not letting any immortal ride me!"

"Oh? So as long as I'm not an immortal, that's fine?"

From then on, one immortal lord was missing from the palace above the clouds, and a Daoist appeared in the human world.

One day, a demon from the mountains captured the Daoist while he was chopping wood and took him to offer up to their king.

The king saw nothing but an ordinary mortal with shallow cultivation and no threat to him, so he ordered, "You short-lived, weak human! If you stay in my cave and obediently cook for me, I won't eat you."

The Daoist, meanwhile, thought: I've had good luck. All those days pretending to be a woodcutter weren't wasted. I've caught a paper tiger, a coward with nothing but brute strength. What a waste of resources. Let me take this menace in hand!

A serious statement:
