Martha had always thought life was wonderful.
She and her husband, Thomas, were deeply in love. Their two children were sweet and well-behaved, and Alfred kept the household running smoothly. Gotham was still somewhat chaotic, but with the Wayne family's business thriving and their tireless efforts, the light was beginning to shine on the city.
Things would surely be better in the future, she thought, until the gunshots rang out in the dark alley, and her son fell into a pool of blood.
And took her hope with him.
Martha changed. Her family was busy healing while also fighting crime as vigilantes. By the time they realized what was happening, she was teetering on the edge of Gotham's darkest abyss, and no one could possibly bring her back.
In the end, Heaven wasn't quite so cruel.
As Martha wore an exaggerated smile and was about to cut the corners of her mouth with a knife, a System crashed into her brain, bringing with it memories of her previous life.
Martha looked at the animated shows and movies stored in the System. Her finger hovered over the Batman series, and tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
Martha absolutely could not become the Joker. She would disappoint the Bruces of other worlds.
But business couldn't save Gotham, and there would always be a Joker in Gotham.
And so, the Joker heroine was born.
PS:
This takes place in a parallel universe. The experiences of the Wayne couple and others differ from those in the main universe and Flashpoint. Impressions of other worlds come from movies and fanfiction. Please be aware that there are many original interpretations and out-of-character elements.
Clark is a child of the Wayne Family, not the Kent Family. There is no little Thomas! In this story, he is a year older than Bruce, because Batman first appeared in Detective Comics in 1939, while Superman appeared in comic book history in 1938.
Martha didn't transmigrate. She went through the normal cycle of reincarnation, and because she watched DC movies in her previous life, she vaguely remembered them and adapted well to being in the movie universe.
The Wayne couple occasionally show off their affection. There may be minor BL or BG pairings in some worlds, but mostly everyone's relationship is that of brothers, partners, or sworn enemies. Smile.
Updates are still irregular. The author has eaten the timeline and outline, but I promise not to abandon the story. Thank you all for your support!
