At the age of twenty-three, travel enthusiast Qin Zhi visits the border region of southern Tibet. She stumbles upon a mysterious village beneath snow-covered mountains, but gets separated from her companions while scouting locations and is rescued after an avalanche.
When she wakes, she's in a cold cave, wrapped in a Tibetan robe and leaning against the sturdy body of a foreign man, warming herself with his body heat.
He says his name is Gongbu. A turquoise earring in his left ear makes a faint clinking sound. His eyes are as cold and shadowy as a silver wolf, their color a piercing blue.
The heavy snow closes off the mountain. While they wait for clear weather, she spends three days alone with the man. Each time she loses consciousness, he brings her around, then safely leads her out.
When they meet again, her health has recovered, and she brings him a gift to thank him. Mist swirls around the hot springs, and colorful prayer flags flutter across the wilderness. The man's tightly packed abdominal muscles rise and fall like mountain ridges, his wildness entirely natural.
After a reckless night together, the only thing she remembers in the morning is that when she was barely conscious, he'd coaxed her into repeating a few mysterious Tibetan phrases. She doesn't know what they mean.
She thinks they were strangers who happened to meet, so a brief moment of indulgence shouldn't matter. But she's petite, and their bodies differ greatly in every way. The man has incredible stamina, and after getting a taste of her, he makes no effort to hide the predatory gaze that keeps her in its grip, as if he could go on forever.

Only later does Qin Zhi learn that the Tibetan phrases she repeated the first time they met meant that she promised to be with him for all eternity, never to part.
