Blurb One
The Liaocheng "772" serial murder case claimed a total of twelve lives.
The victims had absolutely nothing in common.
There were twelve portraits of the killer,
and every one was different.
Blurb Two
In his second year working with the Criminal Investigation Team of the Liaocheng Public Security Bureau, Fu Ji met a woman.
Her name was Xu Ting, and she was the attending physician at a private psychology clinic.
Case details could not be disclosed, so he always liked to share with her the reckless thoughts of his youth that he could not tell anyone else.
For example, the "772" case.
The young man pushed open the clinic door, his face flushed. His sharp brows and eyes seemed to gleam like starlight. "Xu Ting, I found another clue today!"
Xu Ting got up, poured a glass of water, and handed it to him, waiting for him to complain and brag.
The man rattled on and on. Then his expression suddenly darkened, and the hand resting on the table clenched into a fist. "Tell me, why are there always places the sunlight can't reach?"
"Because wherever people live, they multiply and carry on, generation after generation."
Fu Ji disagreed with her theory. "A child's not punished for a parent's sins, and besides, people are born good. How could evil people possibly be evil generation after generation?"
"You're right." The woman's fingertips traced his brows and eyes, brimming with starlight. They were so open and pure, as if they could wash away every stain on her.
She had spent so much time visiting Buddhist temples to hide her sins.
Xu Ting approached Fu Ji in the hope of being reborn.
Bodhisattvas save all living beings, but Fu Ji was the one who saved her.
Blurb Three
In his old age, Fu Ji developed Alzheimer's. People came and went every day, making sure to introduce themselves to the old cadre over and over, hoping he would remember them and help them rise to success. But no matter how many times they repeated their names, Fu Ji could only say one name:
Xu Ting.
She was the suspect in the "772" serial murder case, shot dead at the scene decades ago.
A psychologically twisted doctor X an upright, true-blue police officer
