Once, I saw the moon’s celestial messenger, as flawless as a bright moon and a white jade disc in the heavens.
I tried everything to pluck him down, and in the process, I sullied him.
Forty years between life and death, and at our sudden reunion, I could hardly believe it was real.
Though our long separation brought no grief, he had nonetheless fallen deep into the mortal world because of me.
Now that I have been reborn, I only want to polish him clean and send him back, whole and unblemished.
Alas, spilled water cannot be gathered up, and a fallen moon cannot return.
In the end, my selfishness alone held back his clear path to immortality.
