The wealthy Cheng family has found their lost daughter: a shabby, gloomy pushover who lets everyone walk all over her.
But nobody knows that she has only been human for a short time.
Just one day ago, she was a school ghost story who loved popping up right in people's faces.
On Cheng Xing's first day home, the fake heiress and young Master Cheng cling to each other and threaten to break up.
The fake heiress sobs prettily: "Are you choosing me or her?!"
Young Master Cheng pins her against the wall, eyes red: "How could that country bumpkin compare to you?!"
The two share a romantic kiss in the pouring rain, while Cheng Xing stands in disarray at the entrance to the magnificent villa.
Only later does she realize she's just one part of their twisted love-triangle roleplay!
Disgusted, Cheng Xing summons her underlings. Every night, they sing nursery rhymes beside the ears of these two love-struck fools.
The pair tremble whenever they meet. Forget dating: even making eye contact feels like it might send them to opposite sides of the grave.
-
Her love-struck mother and mother-in-law are locked in a battle of love and hate, putting on a domestic power struggle every day.
With her natural aura of victimhood, Cheng Xing becomes part of their mother-in-law and daughter-in-law roleplay: "Who poisoned my poor daughter?" and "Was it the wicked mother or the white-lotus mother-in-law?"
Cheng Xing may be immune to every poison, but the stuff tastes awful, and it still annoys her!
At the end of her tether, Cheng Xing summons another horde of ghost-story underlings. In the dead of night, they roll marbles, bounce balls, play hide-and-seek, and call out "Mama" on the floor above the pair.
The two women lose sleep every night and have to nap all day, leaving them no energy for their domestic power struggle.
Cheng Xing gives a sinister smile: Rich-family survival skills, unlocked!
-
Cheng Xing's father is unlike the rest of the family. He's all business, obsessed with making money.
She thinks at least he might be a little less trouble. Instead, he picks a fight with a villain and drags Cheng Xing into a business-war roleplay: "Hand over that plot of land or we'll tear up the ticket" and "Go ahead, tear it up. It's just a daughter I don't even care about."
Cheng Xing: !!!
Furious, she transforms into the Lord of Ghost Stories, takes control of the kidnappers, and turns the tables by kidnapping her own father. Then she implants the suggestion that "your daughter is actually your reincarnated father, so if you're a good son, you should give her all your money and shares."
And so another abnormal member joins the Cheng family: President Cheng, clutching his daughter and sadly crying, "Daddy, you finally came back to see your good little Niu!"
What rich-family melodrama? The Chengs just want to buy some black-dog blood to ward off evil! This place is way too creepy!
Reader's Note:
1. This novel includes elements of the supernatural.
2. It's called a ghost story, but it's really more about spirits.
Premise: We hold our own destinies in our hands.
