A Floating Life in Dreams

On the day I was led to the executioner's block, Xie Xinghe still demanded that I prove I had never loved him.

I tugged at the corner of my mouth and said nothing. In this world, people ask you to prove that something happened, not that it didn't. How could I prove something I had never done?

The blade fell, and I thought my life had come to an end.

But when I opened my eyes again, I saw Xie Xinghe, his hair completely white and his face aged.

He said, "A Luo, I've waited forty years for you."

From a spirited young man to an old man nearing the end of his days, he had spent his entire life waiting for me to wake up and look at him.

*

In a daze, I remembered that before I died, Master fed me a pill. He said it would make my death less painful. All I remembered of the world after death was sunshine, a gentle spring warmth, Master's love for me, my brother's affection, and even Xie Xinghe turning back to look at me.

So this is how warm hell can be.

So after I closed my eyes, I never woke up again, and I didn't want to.

But later, I learned that the executioner's blade had never fallen on me, and what I had taken wasn't pain medicine. It was a love spell.
