The Prince Consort Doesn't Want to Work Hard Anymore

Li Yuanjia is the most doted-on princess of the Dasheng Dynasty. Since childhood, she's had everything she wanted, and even the princes are no match for her in status.

So when she takes a liking to a top scholar at the Qujiang Banquet, she asks her father, the emperor, to arrange their marriage that very day.

On their wedding night, her husband bluntly accuses her of abusing her power, then turns and bangs his head against a pillar!

They manage to save him, but he loses his memory.

The upright, proud top scholar becomes a lazy man who lies around in the courtyard sunbathing and asks her every day what they're having for dinner.

Li Yuanjia: "..." At least he's still handsome. I'll keep him around as a pretty ornament.

But later, the ornament starts acting strangely.

Her father's health declines by the day, and he secretly orders her to sit in on court affairs and review memorials. She reads them over and over without understanding a thing, then angrily throws down her brush.

The pretty ornament happens to pass by, picks it up, and glances at the page. "This man is insulting your third brother, not you."

The ministers give her a headache, so the ornament brings her a plate of oranges. "Try one. They're sweet."

He even throws himself in front of her when her third brother's blade comes at her.

Only then does Li Yuanjia realize that the husband who hit his head against the pillar really does seem to have become someone else. Could some mountain spirit or wild demon have possessed him to repay her kindness?

Her husband laughs in disbelief. "Me? A demon?"

Li Yuanjia answers with complete conviction. "Then what are you?"

Her husband stops smiling and looks at her.

"Someone who has seen you lose everything, yet wants to protect you with all his might... Would you believe me?"
