Born in the Height of Summer

The day she met Zhai Yi was the brightest moment of Qi Mingyue's life.

After three years of painful struggle, she had finally advanced to the next stage of her studies and regained her confidence. Standing at the podium to defend her work, she looked like a butterfly about to spread its wings and fly.

Her tall, strapping junior was like a shy big dog, bashfully asking for her contact information.

Qi Mingyue smiled and drew him into a corner. Watching his ears grow redder and redder, she spoke, and the color drained from his face.

She said,

I've been in love twice before. Neither relationship ended well.

She said,

I may not be able to give my heart to someone. The times I've been put down and blamed may have made it impossible for me to love you.

Zhai Yi left in a daze.

That night, Qi Mingyue received dozens of messages.

[Senior, I've never dated anyone, but I think we could have a happy ending.]

[Senior, I'm not good at flattering people, but whenever I praise you, I mean it.]

[Senior, dating someone older isn't easy. I'll be more mature and take good care of you.]

[Senior...]

Qi Mingyue only smiled as she read them.

There aren't that many people who stay by your side forever. It's all just pretty words.

But years passed, and she'd been through even worse lows, yet she never again suffered the pain of being belittled and abandoned.

In the height of summer, when she was twenty-four, a silly junior athlete entered her battered life and healed every one of her wounds with his own hands.
