After Failing the Exams, I Became the Chief Councilor's Daughter-in-Law

Ye Yan hates Xu Shu more than anyone. Xu Shu has lived next door to him since they were little. Xu Shu has always been taller than him. Xu Shu has always been better-looking than him. Since Ye Yan was a child, his father has spanked him and told him how wonderful Xu Shu is. If Ye Yan is the mosquito-blood stain in the Imperial College, the teacher's bane, then Xu Shu is the moonlight in every woman's heart, the teacher's favorite. Everyone says Xu Shu is worthy of being the Chief Councilor's son, destined to become a pillar of the state and a rare talent. Ye Yan can't stand it, so he gathers his friends and decides to teach Xu Shu a lesson. Specifically... He moves his desk to sit behind Xu Shu. He carries his bedding over and squeezes into Xu Shu's dormitory. He pokes Xu Shu in the waist during class to make him laugh. He secretly swaps Xu Shu's textbook for an erotic book. As he goes along, Ye Yan decides he's successfully managed to annoy Xu Shu. The evidence: When Ye Yan sits with Xu Shu, Xu Shu furrows his brow deeply. When Ye Yan sleeps with Xu Shu, Xu Shu walks away with a flick of his sleeve. When Ye Yan pokes Xu Shu in the waist, Xu Shu doesn't so much as flinch. When Ye Yan swaps Xu Shu's textbook, Xu Shu only gives him a cold smile. Ye Yan is thoroughly satisfied and retires from the scene. * Three years later, Xu Shu passes all three imperial examinations with top honors, while Ye Yan suddenly comes down with a fever and fails the exams. Everyone makes fun of him, saying Ye Yan is a coward who pretended to be sick on purpose. But the day after the results are announced, an imperial edict arrives at the Ye residence... The entire Ye household is left trembling and stunned. * The Emperor personally orders Ye Yan and Xu Shu to marry. The wedding of two men causes an uproar in the capital. On their wedding night, Xu Shu stands in his wedding robes, slightly drunk. He looks at the bewildered Ye Yan and speaks in a husky voice: “Tonight... let's make the most of it.” The book Xu Shu had swapped out sits on the rosewood table. In the end, Ye Yan and Xu Shu go from young husbands to old husbands, and Ye Yan thinks it's actually pretty great. - 1. The top falls for the bottom at first sight.
