[Old Sword] Short Story Collection

An old short story of mine.

An alternate setting with lots of original details. Updated irregularly, with both happy and tragic endings.

My next historical romance, Snow Embraces the Long Night, is available to add to your library in my author profile:

Yan Shi was a highborn young lady of great renown in the imperial capital, with suitors arriving at her door in an endless stream.

Just before marriage negotiations began, disaster struck the Yan family. Yan Shi fell from her lofty position overnight and became the daughter of a convicted official.

The noblemen who had once sought her hand tried to take advantage of her misfortune and make her a concubine. Everyone waited to laugh as the beautiful pearl was cast into the mud.

But Yan Shi held her head high and married into the Marquis's household instead.

Only then did people remember that, years earlier, the Yan family's young lady and Xie Qingheng, heir to the Marquis's house, had been engaged.

That astonishingly gifted young heir had been buried in a foreign land at the age of eighteen. By now, he had long since returned to dust.

Xie Qingheng had made a name for himself as a youth. Dashing and spirited, he had been the dream of countless young women, their moonlight in the spring boudoir. Then he was ambushed and made to suffer unspeakable torment.

He escaped death, clawed his way out of a dark and sinister hell, and returned to the imperial capital under a new identity, swearing to take his revenge.

But even he could never have imagined that after coming back from the dead, he would somehow find himself with a new bride.

Xie Qingheng: ...?

Yan Shi married Xie Qingheng's memorial tablet only to gain the Xie family's protection, keep her family safe, and clear her father and brother's names.

She never imagined that the dead could one day return...
