A devoted reader, Chu Xi, wakes up to find that he's become the great villain who shares his name in a wildly popular cultivation novel featuring a golden finger.
This villain is so formidable that he is the greatest god in the Celestial Realm, aloof and untouchable. He also meets a truly dreadful end: the protagonist ascends to the Celestial Realm and kills him, destroying his soul so completely that he never enters the cycle of reincarnation.
Fans affectionately call him "the most unjustly killed man in the whole book."
To stay alive, Chu Xi has to rack his brains to get close to the protagonist, Xiao Xiao. He painstakingly raises the boy through his youth, gives him magical treasures and opportunities, and desperately works to raise his favorability, hoping that at the end of the story Xiao Xiao will spare his life for old times' sake.
But before he knows it, he maxes out Xiao Xiao's favorability.
Oblivious to this, Chu Xi sees the plot suddenly veering off course and promptly takes the place of a doomed supporting heroine, taking a sword meant for the protagonist and forcing the story back on track. Then he slips back to the Celestial Realm to lie flat and await the finale.
But instead of the ending, what arrives is a protagonist who's completely turned evil.
Looking at Xiao Xiao as he walks in with a sword and a chilling smile on his lips, Chu Xi thinks...
He's doomed.

When Xiao Xiao was born, someone read his fortune and said he was a lone star of ill fate, destined to bring misfortune to his wife, family, teacher, and friends. Anyone who became his companion would be abandoned by all and die a terrible death.
At first, he dismissed the prediction, believing that people could overcome fate.
Later, his clan was wiped out, his loved ones all perished, and he was forced to wander the martial world alone. Anyone connected to him was met with one disaster after another.
Xiao Xiao finally accepted his fate.
He thought he was destined to live a lonely life, with no one willing to stay by his side. But then someone reached out to him and said he didn't believe in fate.
He asked why. The man said, "Because what we do matters. My fate isn't in Heaven's hands."
Xiao Xiao didn't believe him.
The man scoffed. "Believe it or not, I'll protect you."
Xiao Xiao just laughed it off.
Until that day, when the cold wind pierced to the bone and snow covered the rivers. Blood poured from his wounds, soaking his clothes and silently seeping into the earth, turning into icy clots.
Holding his cooling body, Xiao Xiao was left utterly bereft.
Gloomy, cold, and sharp-tongued top versus gentle, easygoing chatterbox bottom
