The Butcher's Little Bride

The butcher in Xiali Village is a big, strong man with skill and a good income. He's generous and gallant, too. But he drinks, gambles, and fights. He swears like a sailor and behaves like a crude lout. People call him an honest man who's as fierce as he is dim-witted. No one knows that when he barked at her, "You stinking woman," his heart pounded like a drum and his head spun as if he'd downed eighteen bowls of strong liquor. He called her his woman! * The scholar's granddaughter is weak and has no particular skills. She only knows a few characters. Raised in town, she is fair-skinned, quiet, and shy. But after her scholar grandfather died, finding her a husband became a problem. The townspeople looked down on her, while the villagers feared she would look down on them. They praised her to her face and talked behind her back, keeping their distance. Only the butcher, whenever he saw her, would walk over with ears red as blood and bark, "You stinking woman!" even as he tried to act tough. She knew he liked her. A warm, healing story~ A little tale of everyday life. Theme: Human nature is complicated, but people's hearts can be warm.
