Wind and Snow Illuminate the Mortal World

Blurb: Duan Liyue often has a dream. In it, he drives his sword through someone's chest, but he can't make out the person's face. All he can hear is the person calling to him again and again: "A Li..." Later, Duan Liyue meets someone named Feng Lingyu, who somehow feels familiar. He thinks he ought to fall for him, but his empty heart never stirs. Feng Lingyu has a peerless face and treats everyone well, yet harbors inexplicable malice toward him alone. He bullies and humiliates him, as though he means to inflict every pain in the world upon him. But Feng Lingyu doesn't know that Duan Liyue was born cold-blooded and unfeeling, with no idea what pain is. Everything Feng Lingyu does leaves him unmoved. Until Feng Lingyu ruins his reputation, and he accidentally takes a fertility drug, becomes pregnant with Feng Lingyu's child, and is driven out of the city. It should have been a fine, sunny day in June, yet unexpectedly, a vast blanket of snow fell. It lit up the world, but couldn't brighten his heart. That day, his child was born and died. That day, his heart started beating again, and he finally remembered his past with Feng Lingyu. That same day, his heart and the person he held dearest were buried in the dust beneath June's snowstorm. Before he fainted, Duan Liyue seemed to see again the boy from a thousand years ago, smiling brightly before him. Back then, the boy had said, "I'll take you home." His heart had been full of joy. This time, the boy said the same thing, but all Duan Liyue felt was desolation. Duan Liyue's heart was bitter, yet he still managed to force a faint smile. Looking at Feng Lingyu, he said slowly, "Feng Lingyu, at last, I owe you nothing." Theme: The too-wise are often hurt, and deep love rarely lasts.
