When Chu Nan was eight, she escaped from the orphanage and ran straight into Liang Mo, who had just stepped out of a Rolls-Royce.
Liang Mo had an air somewhere between a boy and a man. His features were cold, and his eyes alone were dark and deep, like a fire burning beneath ice.
"Please save me!"
In desperation, Chu Nan clutched the hem of his coat and pleaded softly.
Liang Mo glanced at her slender, pale fingers, pulled his coat free, then turned and opened the car door.
Without hesitation, Chu Nan climbed in and went with him.
That one ride turned into ten years.
-
When she was eighteen, Chu Nan climbed into Liang Mo's bed.
He was the man she'd loved for five years, ten years her senior.
Then, for three whole years, Liang Mo disappeared without a trace.
Everyone said the new head of the Liang family was cold-blooded and ruthless, with an iron hand. No one could make him so much as bat an eyelid, let alone feel a trace of tenderness.
Even the girl he'd raised for over a decade was nothing more to him than a pretty vase.
-
Chu Nan's heart was broken. She no longer wanted to cling to a heartless man, so she turned and walked away with her head held high.
Then, at a party, someone saw Liang Mo, newly returned from abroad, corner Chu Nan on the balcony. He smiled wickedly and said, "You sleep with me and then run off? Who taught you that bad habit?"
"Liang Mo, aren't all my bad habits from childhood the ones you taught me?" Chu Nan replied coldly. "Besides, you were the one who ran away first. I don't want you anymore, either."
Chu Nan shoved him away and turned to leave.
Liang Mo's head turned with the force of the push. No one noticed his reddened eyes. All they saw was the faint, cool curve of his lips.
Everyone thought the canary had finally grown wings, and Liang Mo probably wouldn't look her way again.
Then Chu Nan got drunk at the party.
There were plenty of people around, all ready to make a move. Quite a few were waiting to see who would take away this canary that had flown out of its cage.
But as one of them approached, a group of bodyguards suddenly held them back.
The aloof, imposing man strode over to the unconscious girl. A chill that warned everyone away radiated from him, yet he gently lifted her into his arms, holding her close to his heart. Then he lowered his head and kissed her lips.
"Be good, Nannan. I'll take you home."
The man who was decisive and ruthless in business spoke as gently as a night breeze, his eyes full of a boundless devotion no one else could fathom.
Liang Mo had spent his life ruling the world without fear. But if Chu Nan's eyes turned red, he was helpless, and his bloodlust ran wild.
