How to Hatch Your Dragon

While sorting through the box of treasures she loved most as a child, Jiao Xiaowei found:

A spellbook filled with strange incantations;

A peerless sword;

A small cape that let its wearer fly;

A dragon egg.

The spellbook was actually a collection of ideas she'd scribbled in a notebook.

The peerless sword was a wooden toy she'd bought after becoming obsessed with martial arts novels as a child.

The cape that let its wearer fly was a piece of polyester fabric that had become a little tattered over the years.

As for the dragon egg, it was just a large rock that looked remarkably like an egg. She had no idea where she'd found it.

Jiao Xiaowei smiled at the fanciful childhood she'd had, then, on a whim, tucked the egg against her chest and slept with it for a night.

Of course, nothing happened.

But Jiao Xiaowei couldn't bring herself to put the dragon egg away, so she buried it in her blankets and left it there for a year.

And then the stone dragon egg came to life.
