In the twenty-first century, countless kinds of maliciously formed eerie domains began appearing one after another around the world.
Once caught inside one, dying there could leave your body in the real world injured and hospitalized at best, or in a vegetative state at worst.
Yang Yan was born plagued by bad luck, burdened with resentment, and physically weak. Her scumbag father sold her to human traffickers. After the trafficking gang was unlucky enough to be rounded up in one fell swoop, a Daoist priest adopted her, and she lived in a mountain temple for years to prolong her life.
Her grandmaster declared that she wouldn't live past twenty-one.
So, just after her twentieth birthday, Yang Yan packed her things and headed down the mountain, choosing the route to her scumbag father's home. Before she died, she planned to leave him with a mountain of bad luck.
All she wanted was to repay his cruelty in kind. And if bad luck killed her scumbag father sometime that year, she could repay him for giving her life by arranging the full service: cremation and a grave.
However, she really was unlucky.
Just after she came down the mountain, the haggard-looking heroine was targeted by a human trafficking gang. After being "lured" into a narrow alley, they were unexpectedly pulled into a looping eerie domain.
Still dazed after making it through the first eerie domain, the heroine emerged looking so worn and frail she seemed ready to drop dead at any moment. The rescue workers all helped her into an ambulance, but before she could catch her breath on the way to the hospital, she was pulled into a second eerie domain.
Earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, mutated undersea monsters...
Several unlucky souls who had been "chosen" were swept into this eerie domain. Before they could even figure out their surroundings, a series of natural disasters struck. As they struggled to survive, several of their companions were eliminated.
"What kind of eerie domain is this? Whose malice created it? How can it be this extreme?"
"Malice usually comes from people who experienced real events. If this is based on something real, then with disasters this horrifying, surely the country involved would have been wiped out by now?"
At last, a well-read medical worker recognized the place. "This is the first country in the world to disappear. It's called Sun Island, a small country where people lived very comfortable lives. Historical records say it vanished in the 2020s. Its leaders stubbornly dumped wastewater into the ocean, and the natural disasters struck in retaliation. It disappeared before even a year had passed."
For malice to form an eerie domain on this scale, and for it to affect an entire country, it probably didn't come from someone in that country.
A disturbing thought crossed everyone's minds. "Damn it, could this malice have come from people all over the world?"
Someone pointed at Yang Yan, who kept an oxygen tank close by and rolled her eyes back if she breathed too fast, and shouted in despair, "This eerie domain is terrifying! Forget everyone else, but what's the point of you coming in here?!!"
Trembling, Yang Yan pulled a stack of yellow talisman papers from her wide sleeve. "L-lucky talismans, c-clearance price, 300 each..." Then her eyes rolled back and she fainted.
"Damn it, she's a fraud who swindles and cheats people. Spit!"
One day later--
"Master! I'll pay ten times the price for those lucky talismans. No, a hundred times!"
