Immortal Sword IV: Xuan-Zi | A Web of Twin Threads

“He's still in Lancang. He said to have you wait for him to come back, if you're willing to wait.”

That was the whole message, in just a few short words.

No reason, no explanation, just a simple message. Nothing more.

“I'll wait.”

Ziying answered without the slightest hesitation.

Has nothing changed? Even after a hundred years? Though his black hair has turned to snow, he is still that boy who knelt without hesitation in the forbidden grounds and made a vow to a figure dressed in white.

His solemn tone and earnest expression reminded Zizhi of the time she went to search for Qianmo's reincarnation. Beneath the brilliant fireworks filling the sky over Jimo, she had seen a boy, still with a head full of black hair, say, “I give you my word, and I will keep it for the rest of my life.”

Now, facing someone else, he had made another promise.

It is hard to meet and harder still to part; the east wind is powerless, and a hundred flowers wither. The silkworm spins its thread until death, the candle sheds its tears until its wax is spent. At dawn, she frets before the mirror that her hair may have changed; at night, she chants beneath the moon, feeling its cold light.

Penglai is not far from here; may the bluebird fly back and forth to bring news.
