After Breaking Off the Engagement, the Prince Proposed to Me

When autumn came, Lu Xiangyu headed north to the capital with a small bundle on her back, hoping to find her fiancé, Zhao Zhining.

Before she could tell him that his future mother-in-law had died, she saw Zhao Zhining laughing and chatting with a wealthy young lady. The moment he spotted her, Zhao Zhining hurriedly pushed her into a small alley outside the Imperial College.

“Xiangyu, what are you doing here?”

“You saw everything, didn't you? I'm sorry. You're a wonderful girl, but all these years, I've only ever thought of you as a younger sister...”

“I truly love her. If you have to blame someone, blame me, not Miss Sheng. I'm sorry. If I pass the imperial exams, I'll make it up to you, but the affection you want... I can't give it to you.”

Lu Xiangyu fell silent for a long while, then accepted the broken engagement.

She returned quietly to Wanshui Village to sweep the graves and burn incense. Just as she finished paying her respects, one of her workers came rushing up the mountain.

“Boss, an important person has come from the capital. They want to discuss business with us!”

Lu Xiangyu: “Oh.”

“I heard the person who came is... is someone important.”

Lu Xiangyu: “Mm.”

The worker grew so anxious he scratched his head, while Lu Xiangyu calmly snapped off a branch and used it to poke at things as she walked down the mountain. At the foot of the mountain, she saw several people taking in the scenery along the mountain path. The young man at their head was handsome and tall, but wore a sour expression, as if everyone owed him money.

The worker nervously explained that these were the people who had come to discuss business. Lu Xiangyu nodded and stepped forward to greet them. The handsome young man with the sour face was the last to introduce himself, and he did so arrogantly: “Chu Zixu.”

Chu was the royal surname.
