Cheng Jinghe never imagined that his first meeting with Jiaying would happen neither at the teahouse by Moon Lake nor on the bright afternoon in his memory when he opened his teacher's front door.
It happened on her fifteenth birthday, beneath a gloomy sky, with her pure white dance dress soaked by the endless rain.
A black car slowly pulled up in front of her. The driver walked around the car and held out an umbrella. "My employer asked me to give this to you."
The man sat in the back, reading a book with a kraft-paper cover. His expression was faint, and his clean, slender hand adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. Then, as if sensing something, he turned his head. His calm, gentle eyes fell straight into her heart like raindrops just beyond the umbrella.
A moment later, she saw the hand that had adjusted his glasses move to the buttons of his suit. He undid one, then another, and calmly called out a name before rolling up his suit jacket and passing it out the car window.
Through the curtain of rain, she seemed to see a gentle god.

One evening, beneath the last light of sunset, Jiaying rummaged through old belongings and found a short love letter she had never received. It contained only a few words:
I am in love with you, and I would gladly bear anything for it.
Signed, Cheng Jinghe.

[Synopsis for "Coveting a Peach":
The day Cheng Ban returned from abroad, a friend threw him a welcome-home party. He slipped out halfway through to sober up, and a song from the end of the hallway drifted into his ears.
As he approached, the small round window in the door revealed a girl's figure. She wore a red spaghetti-strap dress, her lips a seductive crimson. Holding a standing microphone, she swayed gently and sang "Love That Cannot Be Had" in the soft, flirtatious Shanghai dialect.
She was so young, yet her voice was so sultry it made his bones melt.
"I cannot have your love, like a winter night without light. You won't give me your heart, like searching for your shadow in the dark."
After that, whenever Cheng Ban thought of that night, he felt as though he were the one singing in the first person.
* One song captures one heart.
* Nine-year age gap.]
