Sticky Sweetness

Awkwardly sweet: I love you. Sugar-sweet: Me+too. [Calm girl who always gets even × composed boy who's secretly obsessed with Chu Jiu] Under pressure and temptation from her childhood sweetheart, Chu Jiu got together with him. She thought it had all happened quietly, without anyone noticing, but everyone had already gathered at the gate, gossiping and waiting to see how things would play out. The usually composed girl suddenly blushed to the tips of her ears. She pulled her hand from the boy's and tried to run. But Rong Li had anticipated this. At some point, the red string in his hand had wound itself around their fingers again. The handsome young man in white smiled gently, his voice clear and cool. "What are you all staring at? We were promised to each other as children more than ten years ago. It was only a matter of time before we got together." A Republican-era marriage certificate had these words on it: Joyfully joined today by a red cord, a perfect match. May we grow old together, fragrant as sweet osmanthus and orchids. A cool breeze swept through the darkness. The red string was tied fast around their fingers. She wasn't getting away.
