Savvy, ruthless agent x pretty but talentless actress

A showbiz career-growth story.

Zhong Beixun, hailed by the industry as a "star-making machine," suddenly announced without warning that she was ending her contract with her longtime agency, KINGDOM Entertainment.

As every entertainment company tried to lure the top agent over with an enormous salary, Zhong Beixun made another unexpected announcement that very same day: she had signed with an obscure little company and would become the exclusive agent of Min Nianyin, a former idol who had just transitioned into acting.

The news caused an uproar. Min Nianyin, who had left her group after betraying her teammates, had somehow landed Zhong Beixun as her agent. People sneered that Min Nianyin's sugar daddy sure was trying hard.

A year and a half later, Min Nianyin became the youngest Best Actress in the history of the entertainment industry, standing on the awards stage and proving them all wrong.

In a corner below the stage, Zhong Beixun watched Min Nianyin shine and smiled at her fondly.

Someone once asked Zhong Beixun what she looked for when choosing an artist.

Zhong Beixun shrugged nonchalantly.

"It's not that I'm good at picking people. She's born to be famous."

[Coming soon: Meeting in the Sea]

While tidying up the old house, Huo Xi happened upon a diary and discovered her mother's secret.

Ever since her mother, Huo Xiuhua, adopted her at the age of six, Huo Xi had never seen her mother with a lover. It seemed that her mother's world held nothing but Huo Xi and the necessities of daily life.

Yet in that diary, Huo Xi found a letter her mother had written to her lover. The lover's name was the same as Tong Ruzhi, an arthouse film director who had only recently returned to the country.

On the last page of the diary, Huo Xi found a photograph of a woman standing with her back to the camera by the sea. On the back, her mother had written a single line.

"We will meet again in the sea."
