I’ve Always Been Kind to Beauties

In Great Qi, there is a person everyone clamors to seek out, known as the Sacred Healer of Jiuchuan. Her medical skills are so extraordinary that she can even perform plastic surgery and alter faces to make people beautiful. The wealthy families of Great Qi offer a thousand gold pieces per procedure, just to have her improve their looks. But her whereabouts and the standards by which she chooses whom to treat are just as mysterious as her medical skills. She heals good people and bad, men and women, widows and children. Sometimes she treats people for free, while other times they can't get an audience with her even if they offer a thousand gold pieces. * Chuan Jiu devoted her whole life to medicine. After completing her studies, she went out into the world to put what she'd learned into practice. But money isn't what determines whether she'll treat someone. Only beautiful people can earn her favor. That's what Chuan Jiu herself says, but in the eyes of the world, her standards of beauty are utterly bizarre. The stunning courtesan is beautiful, the cleft-lipped beggar by the roadside is beautiful, and the village widow with a face full of spots is beautiful. Yet the most beautiful woman in the capital is ugly, according to her. Chuan Jiu lets the world's comments go in one ear and out the other, often repeating them as jokes to her little puppet. As the little puppet goes from knowing nothing about emotions to developing the full range of feelings, Chuan Jiu realizes that joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness can all settle in one's heart. Theme: Beauty comes from within. A beautiful heart is true beauty.
