Before marrying into an immortal sect, Mu Yunjiao had heard about her husband's renowned master.
They said her husband's master was the greatest cultivator in the Fourteen Continents, famed for his snow-white feathered robes and the power to slay immortals with a single thought. All cultivators under heaven held him in awe.
Her husband had also told her how aloof and noble, how extraordinarily handsome, how powerful, chaste, and heartless his master was. If she ever met him, she must never be so presumptuous as to offend him.
Mu Yunjiao took his words to heart. But her husband had lost his cultivation, and she was just an ordinary woman. Their stations were as far apart as earth and sky, so she never imagined their paths would cross.
Until one day.
Her husband's master returned from slaying demons, and Mu Yunjiao went with her husband to pay her respects.
From afar, the exalted master looked past the assembled members of the sect and fixed his gaze on Mu Yunjiao. He did not look away for a long time.
From then on, the master treated her with great care. With him looking after her, Mu Yunjiao's life became much easier. Though she thought he was being far too kind, she assumed it was simply because he doted on his disciple, and never suspected anything else.
That night, the sect was attacked, and a demon beast broke into the small courtyard where Mu Yunjiao lived. Instinctively, she searched for her husband. In the chaos, a pair of strong arms pulled her into an embrace.
Mu Yunjiao called her husband's name again and again, but there was no answer. When she looked up, the moonlight revealed the man's handsome, aloof face.
The person holding her was her husband's master.
Mu Yunjiao apologized repeatedly and tried to pull away, but the master's eyes were turbulent with emotion, and his grip tightened.
Mu Yunjiao realized what was happening, and her face went pale.

A few days later, the master forcibly took Mu Yunjiao away.
The night was dark, the snow fell hard, the wind howled, and winter thunder rolled.
Behind the curtains on a high platform, Mu Yunjiao, caught after a failed escape, was held tightly in the master's arms. She watched as her husband came looking for her and was gravely wounded by the master. His spiritual roots were destroyed, and his body was covered in injuries.
The master bent down and whispered in Mu Yunjiao's ear, asking her who she would choose.
Content warnings: A weak heroine and a powerful male lead. This is not a strong-female-lead story. The male lead is a virgin, and he is not a good person. He has all the trappings of a powerful male lead and plenty of dazzling moments. The heroine is an ordinary person. The male lead truly loves her. The heroine's husband has a first love, who is a wicked supporting female character. There is a plotline about a wicked supporting female character being jealous of the heroine, and there is more than one such character. It's the domineering CEO falls for me trope, cultivation-world edition: a cold, exalted lord falls for an utterly ordinary woman. Not orthodox cultivation fantasy. Extensive original worldbuilding. Don't read if that bothers you.
Theme: Be yourself.
