Lian Hua transmigrated into a black magic lotus. Unable to walk or see, she was picked and brought to the Celestial Pond by a kind Immortal Lord. The other lotuses disliked her for being so dark and ostracized her. After the Immortal Lord gave them a scolding, they behaved themselves.
The Immortal Lord did more than stand up for her. He told her stories about the immortal realm every day, chatted with her about the gods' gossip, and even tailored a cultivation method just for her. She cultivated a human form, becoming fairer and more beautiful by the day.
When Lian Hua took human form, the Immortal Lord gave her a lovely name: Lianhua.
The Immortal Lord gazed at her transformed beauty, his expression passionate and solemn. Lianhua thought that after being single her whole life, it was rather nice to have someone love her.
Later, someone told her that she was merely a substitute for the person in the Immortal Lord's heart. Furious, Lianhua found him to demand an explanation, only to see him gazing at the statue in the hall as he said, "Give it a little more time, and you'll look just like her."
Who could put up with that? Lianhua turned and leaped into the cycle of reincarnation, severing all ties without a second thought. She didn't see the Immortal Lord behind her, watching her resolute retreat. He cried out "Lianhua" in a voice raw with grief, then followed her into reincarnation.
Yuan Yu finally found her and helped her return to the path of immortality and reclaim these Ten Continents. But she had been hurt too deeply, and no longer believed in him.
This is really a story about an Immortal Lord trying to win back his wife.
