A Hunter's Daily Life Providing for His Family in Ancient Times

[Our whole family starts preparing for the great escape two years early is ongoing. Come check it out.] Taohua had been through thick and thin with her mother, who had married three times, and made it to the age of sixteen. Then Auntie Wang, a woman from her village, came by to propose a match. The man was called Wei Dahu. He lived with only his father, who had a bad leg. There'd be no mother-in-law to boss her around, no younger siblings to cause a racket, and she could be mistress of the household as soon as she married in. Two earthen houses, a few plots of poor farmland, coarse meals three times a day, and rough cotton clothes in every season. With a red veil over her head and festive suona music playing, Taohua stepped through the gates of the Wei home. On their wedding night, Wei Dahu looked at Taohua in the candlelight. His dark face flushed red. His massive hands, strong enough to kill a tiger with one punch, awkwardly scratched the back of his head as he grinned foolishly. "Heh heh, wife." Taohua stared at the nine-foot-tall man before her, dumbfounded. How could a family this poor possibly have fed Wei Dahu enough to make him so tall and muscular? After their marriage, Wei Dahu took Taohua into the mountains to hunt, fish, pick fruit and chestnuts, gather mushrooms, catch bamboo rats, and dig up wild vegetables. In summer, they hid beneath the dense forest canopy and drank the clear, sweet spring water. In the depths of winter, they bundled up in thick animal pelts and stayed home to wait out the cold. By the end of the year, they had stored enough grain for a comfortable, joyful winter with their family of three. With plenty to eat and no worries, they could have a child during the farming off-season. Everyone said Taohua would have a hard life after marrying Wei Dahu, but who knew she would end up falling into a nest of good fortune?
