I happened to come across a video of Wei Ying embracing Lan Zhan, blood running from his eyes. I don't know who the artist was or what they intended to convey, but from the style, I got the impression that it might be this:
Wei Ying never mastered the demonic path. Instead, he suffered in the Burial Mounds and became a vengeful spirit. Lan Zhan came across him at last, and the two embraced in tears, weeping blood.
And so the idea took hold, and this little piece came out of it.
I want to make it clear that I love watching anime, and that's how I was fortunate enough to learn about Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. I'd heard friends talk about buying its ice cream and merchandise, but I didn't know much about it until I watched the anime and learned what many of its terms meant. I also realized that I wasn't really a fan of the original work.
I'd seen many fans say you had to read the original to be a true fan, so I gave it a try, but I stopped after reading a little.
I couldn't help it. The anime had already shaped my impressions, and I kept thinking of it, so I put the book down and never went back. Also, this is just a short piece based on an idea, and some people may think the characters are out of character or whatever. Please don't make cruel assumptions about me or curse me out.
Honestly, I've seen too many flame wars among Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation fans, and they left me shaken.
I hesitated for a long time before writing this short story. I hope that, as human beings, we can be kind.
Theme: In the end, an even stronger attachment to someone can master fierce resentment.
