The Greedy Monk

The Ye family’s inner household was torn apart by infighting, and the hot-tempered Ye Fei suffered a crushing defeat.

She became an unfilial younger generation who defied her grandmother, an arrogant daughter who disappointed her father, and a selfish older sister despised by her younger brother.

Forced to take her cousin’s place and pray for the princess at a temple.

Ye Fei considered it a profound humiliation and could not find peace day or night.

That was until she met the young monk practicing the meditation of silence. Day by day, her heart grew still as water.

Xuanran had devoted himself to keeping vigil before the ancient Buddha. When he saw Ye Fei, it was neither the wind nor the prayer flag that moved, but his heart.

He accompanied her up nine hundred stone steps. For her, he was willing to shed his monk’s robes, grow out his hair, and take charge of the court.

He let her take his hand, dispel his karmic misfortune, and lead him down from the temple.

All so he could hear her call him “my husband” just once.

Later, the Ye family discovered that Ye Fei, once so scorned, had not only undergone a complete transformation but now treated them as though they were invisible.

How had she managed to rise higher and higher, even ending up above them all?

Question: What do you do when you make a monk fall for the mortal world?

Ye Fei: Why, kiss him, of course!
