After waking from a nap, Jiang Xin found herself back in the summer when she was fifteen.
She no longer had a degree from a prestigious university, a glamorous job, or the property in her name that had just risen in value to tens of millions.
At fifteen, Jiang Xin was about to start ninth grade. Her family was struggling financially, her grades were erratic, and she was awkward and difficult. She was dealing with obesity, acne, and petty girl-on-girl backstabbing.
The girls in her class formed cliques and giggled behind her back, waiting for her to find the homework they'd torn up in her desk.
The boys made faces and jeered, "When fatso Jiang Xin lets out a roar, the whole Earth shakes!"
Her best friend at the time said she'd help Jiang Xin pursue her crush, while secretly texting him a confession of her own, adding, "You don't really like that fatso, do you?"
Her homeroom teacher called her into the office and earnestly advised her to give up on the high school entrance exam. "You're too anxious, and you get nervous during tests. You won't get into a good high school anyway, so you might as well stay at this one."
The school in question was a notorious bad school where students arranged group fights at the gate every Friday.
Jiang Xin: top-tier university graduate, earning seven figures a year, outstanding lawyer of the year...
People had called her beautiful and badass for so long that Jiang Xin had almost forgotten how gloomy her adolescence had been.
What should she do?
Faced with a bunch of brats she was destined to leave in the dust, a mature, successful adult should ignore them, show them understanding, and let it go with a smile.
But Jiang Xin wasn't a mature, successful adult.
She was a childish success story, famous for holding grudges, quibbling over every little thing, and being someone nobody should mess with.
Having perspective? What the hell does that matter? Is anything more important than enjoying yourself?
Jiang Xin: Line up and get ready for a beating.
Jiang Xin: If someone slaps your left cheek, smash their head in.
Jiang Xin: If you can't fight back right away, find a way to get even later, and hit them ten times as hard. Interest adds up.
Jiang Xin: Forgive them? What kind of forgiveness? You mean wait until I've had my revenge, then make them cry as they beg me to forgive them?
