A Humanized Tribulation

As the craze for cultivating immortality faded, more and more people from the Immortal and Divine Realms were sent down to the mortal world to undergo trials. It had been thousands of years since anyone ascended to the Divine Realm. With its ranks running low, the Divine Realm assigned the Immortal Realm a mission: increase both the number and the quality of those who ascended. To put the qualified people of the three thousand small worlds through tribulations, they came up with a plan: "Beat him, pummel him, crush him, then help him, support him, save him." One immortal casually suggested, "Why not seduce him, sleep with him, and ruin him, then love him, cherish him, and move him?" The gods' eyes lit up, and they promptly kicked that immortal down to the mortal world. "That's a brilliant plan! Immortal Lord, you can go sleep with him!!!" So, when faced with the man he had been beating mercilessly, the immortal looked straight at him without changing expression, then threw his arms around him. "I'm sorry. It's because I love you."
