Stirring Up Trouble in an Escape Game

In 2050, the virtual reality game Nightmare Game launches. Its levels, adapted from all kinds of urban legends, enthrall countless players, but very few manage to beat them. Just as Nightmare Game reaches the height of its popularity, a player reveals a secret: While playing, he personally witnessed paranormal events inside the game. Nightmare Game itself is an urban legend. Pei Ling, a psychic detective who can't find work and is so broke she can only afford instant noodles, lights up at the thought. This is a chance to escape poverty and get rich. She decides to become a Nightmare Game player. If the game really has paranormal activity, she'll sell the scoop to the media for money. If there are no paranormal phenomena, she'll endorse the game for its developers and get paid. Later, a post appears on the Nightmare Game discussion board. It shoots to the top soon after it's posted: "The Boss Who Punches Vampires, Kicks Wendigos, Gives Bloody Mary a Makeover, and Gets Slender Man Plastic Surgery" Silly in tone, not very scary. May include urban legends, old horror novels, and stories adapted from real events overseas. Blurb archived on 2019.12.06 Theme: Love & peace
