"I'd like to make a deal with you, Miss He."
"What kind of deal?"
"My wife passed away seven years ago. I've never loved anyone but her. But my grandfather's health is getting worse, and he has only a month left. He wants me to start a new relationship." The man pushed over a check and a family photo. "So I'd like to hire you to pretend to be my fiancée for a month."
He Ran lowered her eyes and leisurely picked up the items on the table.
Her gaze paused on one face in the photograph. He looked cool and languid, just as he always had.
He Ran's eyes grew intent. "You have a younger brother?"
"Yes. His name is Qi Chen."
He Ran chuckled softly. "Sir, your younger brother was my first love in college."
The man was instantly awkward. "I'm sorry. I didn't know you and A Chen had that kind of relationship. Should we call off the deal?"
"No need to call it off." He Ran propped her chin on her hand, smiling like a sly cat. "But you'll have to pay more."

Rumor had it that the second young master of the Qi family was a carefree playboy, decisive and ruthless in his dealings, and utterly unfeeling, yet he had a pair of irresistible, flirtatious eyes.
Three years after graduating from college, the Qi family held a banquet at home.
It was to welcome the eldest son's new fiancée.
The hall was dazzling with luxury, and guests clinked glasses amid the chatter.
Qi Chen saw clearly that the woman standing beside his older brother, smiling sweetly with captivating charm, was his ex-girlfriend, He Ran.
Amid the hubbub, He Ran turned as if sensing his gaze and looked toward Qi Chen. Her eyes held a smile, her gaze bright and shimmering, as she held out her hand. "Second Young Master Qi, I look forward to getting along with you."
Qi Chen's gaze darkened, and a chilling, oppressive air emanated from him.
After a long silence, he finally gave a low laugh and took He Ran's hand. His voice was hoarse. "Likewise."
