Serializing in my column: My Roommate Seems to Have Something Wrong with His Brain
Playful on the outside, steady underneath (and reluctantly childish): cool guy x Gentle young master, steady on the outside, playful underneath
A week after moving in with Jian Zhengyan, Pei Shu suddenly realized that something seemed a little off about his senior.
The soundproofing in Jian Zhengyan's home was exceptionally good. Yet after Pei Shu cut his hand in his room and let out a soft cry, Jian Zhengyan burst through the door before he could even get up, carrying a first-aid kit and holding Pei Shu's hand as he treated the wound.
Pei Shu couldn't make heads or tails of it. When he asked Jian Zhengyan about it, the other man stammered, “I... I thought you might use a knife. Anyway, it was just... intuition!”
One time might have been intuition, but after Pei Shu accidentally dropped a glass downstairs and bumped his arm while playing with the cat, Jian Zhengyan somehow showed up right away to tend to him almost every time.
If Pei Shu hadn't confirmed Jian Zhengyan wasn't with him when those things happened, he really would have thought he was being watched.
But every time he asked, Jian Zhengyan would only look away and say, “Intuition.”
Pei Shu was only half convinced. But since he really liked the man, he could only tell himself: Maybe he's a little paranoid, which is why he's so well prepared.
One day, on a whim, Pei Shu checked the pet camera. He didn't see the cat, but he did see Jian Zhengyan sitting on the sofa, his gaze dark, one hand half extended into empty space as if tenderly caressing someone. Pei Shu thought he must have been seeing things, until Jian Zhengyan murmured his childhood nickname. His mind went completely blank.
Looking closer, he saw the veins standing out on Jian Zhengyan's arm where it rested on his thigh. His eyes, fixed on empty space, were full of possessiveness.
Pei Shu was so startled that he could no longer reassure himself: Oh no, there really is something wrong with his mind.
He was about to turn off the camera when Jian Zhengyan's gaze landed directly on it, as though he could see Pei Shu through the lens. He tilted his head slightly and called out affectionately:
“Xiao Shu?”
Pei Shu's spine instantly turned cold.
