The Eldest Princess

Changle is the most esteemed princess of the Liang Kingdom, and her beauty is unmatched beneath the heavens.

Unfortunately, Liang is a tiny kingdom. To avoid being swallowed by its neighbors, it must arrange a marriage alliance with a powerful state.

The ruler of Liang told Changle, "Chu and Wei are both powerful kingdoms, and their crown princes are fine young men. You may marry one of them."

The next day, Liang's chancellor said to the ruler, "Your Majesty, the crown prince of Chen has routed a hundred thousand Chu troops. Chen's power should not be underestimated."

The ruler of Liang asked, "What is the crown prince of Chen like?"

The chancellor replied, "A dragon among men."

The ruler of Liang then told Changle, "The crown prince of Chen is also a fine match."

Changle said, "Father, then whom am I supposed to marry? Should I draw lots?"

The ruler replied, "Very well."

Changle drew a lot and got the crown prince of Chen.

When the crown prince of Chen heard, he gave a mocking laugh. "A princess from a tiny kingdom has no say in the matter."

A Chen official said, "Princess Changle is unmatched in beauty."

The crown prince of Chen replied, "Do you take me for a man who lusts after women?"
